August 2004 - Manchester Tournament

One Holyrood team headed down to Manchester this August for the Dominoes Netball Club 3rd Annual Tournament.

After a traumatic experience negotiating Manchester’s one-way system (Sorry Annie) we finally arrived at what could only be called the Hostel from Hell.  We spent the night with 10 sweaty male strangers (none of them vaguely attractive either), in a room directly over boy racer strip, but nevertheless we were still full of enthusiasm for the next day.

After a mighty breakfast, we headed out to the Manchester Velodrome. Our first match was against St Martins College.  They completely gubbed us but then went on to win our section so we didn’t feel quite so bad.  Fortunately, our form improved slightly as the day went on and as we became acclimatised to the heat.  We increased the numbers of goals we scored with each match, and although we didn’t actually win any we were pleased with our performance.  The temperatures were over 30 deg. that day and all matches were outdoors, so we were utterly exhausted come 5 o’clock.

We managed to stumble in to town that evening for a fab chinese and even managed a drink before collapsing in a heap back at HFH to nurse our sunburn. The next morning we spent sightseeing, before driving/training back home.

Despite my moaning, we all had an utterly fabulous time and are looking forward to going back next year. Have a look at the Dominoes Netball Club website for our piccie!

August 2004 - Yellow's Leeds Tour

The headed to Leeds for "Gladiator 2004 tour" to visit their old team-mate and former Gladiator Champion, Kerryn. With fab Yellow Holyrood t-shirts and their proud Gladiator names they managed to fit in two games of netball (one loss, one win) and of course, lots of drinking and dancing!

Nightshade shone on the court, but proved her reaction time reduced immensely after a few wines. Vogue spent the majority of the weekend striking a pose and was champion of the shocking game! Jet was dynamic on court but limber off and Amazon revealed her kinky side, delighting in sex toys. Fox spent the night dancing on her toes, although couldn't compete with the dance floor champion Lightning with her splits manoeuvre. Whilst our sexy Siren wooed the boys with her pouting. Rebel started the weekend drunk, and things never really improved. And Panther was just blown away by voice-activated windows!!!

May 2004 - End of season BBQ and sports day

To celebrate the 2003/2004 season the club held an BBQ and sports day at Inverleith Park. There was a great turn out and wonderful weather for the day, with everyone having a go at some different sports including softball, football, ultimate frisbee and touch rugby. It was a great way to wrap up the season.

May 2004 - Mixed night

For the final training session for the 2003/2004 season, we held a mixed night, or "bring a man" night. We had a fantastic turn out, which included lots of guys (some of which were trying their hand at netball for the first time). We ended up having enough people to for 6 teams! It was a great night and it means that Holyrood should be well represented at the mixed tournament in June.

February 2004 - Beach Themed Karaoke Night

The multiple talents of the netball girls showed through at the Beach Themed Karaoke Night held recently in conjunction with the boys from the Edinburgh Northern Rugby Club. The girls were not shy in grabbing the mike and belting out a few numbers......although we do think that some of them should stick to playing netball!! I think we would all agree that everyone had a great night, despite wearing singlets and sarongs in the midst of the Scottish Winter!
