Annual
Awards Ceremony- May 2007
The Annual Awards Ceremony took
place with an Oscars theme for the second time running at the Crags
on Saturday 26th May. It was another fabulous and well attended
evening and everyone looked amazing in their glamorous outfits!
Here are some of the pics to remember it by.

Mixed
Tournament - May 2007
The annual Holyrood Mixed Netball
Tournament took place on Saturday 26th May with 7 teams entering. There
was some fantastic netball seen by both sexes and the overall winner
of the tournament were the SUPERHANDZ!!

CENA
Tournament - January 2007
The CENA netball tournament took
place on Saturday 13th January with
the HNCA team managing to place second. The day started well for
the
team, winning all matches in its early rounds to finish on top
of
Group 1. The team faced Edinburgh University who finished second
in
Group 2 in the semi final round and won with the Edinburgh Netball
Club team winning the other semi final and setting up the final
match showdown.
Edinburgh got off to a great start and had built up a good lead
into
the half time break. While HNCA tried hard to stop the Edinburgh
side in the second half, they were just too strong and won the
tournament in fine style.
Thanks to all the girls for playing and to all of the organisers
of
the day.
Christmas
2006 - Christmas party at the Crags!!

October
2006 - School disco welcome night
Another school disco party to start off another
exciting season! A great night was had by all at the Crags....

October
2006 - National Club Tournament
Three teams travelled to Glasgow
on Sunday 8th October to compete in the National Clubs Tournament.
Below are the team's match reports.
Thistes Report
The Thistles team for the National
Clubs Tournament consisted of a mixture of Thistles and Tartans
players, and we had a bit of a mixed day! We started well, with
a one goal loss against the strong opposition of Internationale,
and then we went on to win our next two games. Another very narrow
loss in the final morning session, meant that we only just missed
out on quailification for the cup section. Our sandwiches must
have been spiked, as our performance in the afternoon didn't match
our morning's games, and we didn't manage to make it to the finals
for the plate. Great effort from all the team - it was really encouraging
to see a newly formed team play so well.
Celts/Chieftans/Saltires
Report
A team comprising 5 shooters and
2 defenders (!) from the Celts, Chieftans and Saltires made their
way to Glasgow for the annual national tournament as Holyrood's
third team. After a 'difficult' morning (probably the most polite
way of saying it given that we had some of the top national sides
in our group!) we made our way to the Plate competition for the
afternoon and during the afternoon we found some form! Despite
a number of players playing out of their normal position we had
a couple of close games which really gelled the team together.
This was followed by a stunning win over the 2nd Holyrood team
(somewhat unexpected for all involved!) and then a draw in a game
which we would have won were it not for a goal being scored by
the opposition just as the final whistle was blown! Whilst we didn't
qualify for the final of the Plate competition it was fantastic
to see a team form together so quickly and the victories made the
day even sweeter!
Scottish
Cup - Thistles
First Round
On Sunday October 29, members from
the Thistles headed across to Glasgow for the first round of the
Scottish Cup. Two games were played, the first against SPRA and
the second against Scotstoun 2.
The first game started off with
a tight quarter with the Thistles up 5-3. As the game wore on the
Thistles extended the lead and ended up winning by a margin of
17 goals.
Game two against Scotstoun 2 was
set to be a tight game from the beginning. The Thistles started
well and were up at the end of the first quarter and held the lead
throughout the first three quarters with Scotstoun 2 creeping closer
by the end of each quarter. In the final quarter the lead changed
several times with Oonah starring the final few minutes to help
Thistles win by a margin of three.
A big thanks to all the girls and
especially Annie for coming across and umpiring for the day.
Second Round
Sunday saw the next round of the Scottish Cup played out with the Thistles
drawn to take on the Saltires. Unfortunately the car carrying most of the
Saltires across from Glasgow to Edinburgh broke down and the team was not
able to play. Thistles now advance to the quarter finals due to forfeit.
Quarter Finals
The
thistles faced the scary Scotstoun this saturday bright and early
in Glasgow. We got hammered 27-79,
which surprisingly is better than we have done against Oynx. We
played hard for the full 60 against the basically scottish national
team (6 national players on the court at all times, sometimes 7!).
They were slick, fit and awesome. We had a pretty good first and
last quarter, and even forced them to make some mistakes. We left
feeling proud of our effort. Viv and Annie's fantastic accuracy
were even commented on by some of the scotstoun players! Thanks
to Jo and Tania who gave up their saturday morning to help us out.
